Produced in response to the emphasis on Speaking and Listening in the New Primary Framework, the Group Discussions Pack is the ideal solution for organising groups of children whilst participating in group discussion and interaction.

As suggested by the New Primary Strategy, children should be given experience of undertaking various roles during discussion activities.

Group Discussion Roles Posters

14 A4 posters and a display sign, each explaining the following roles: 

• Manager/Chairperson/Leader/Facilitator*
• Scribe/Recorder/Note-taker*
• ReporterMentor/Explainer*
• Encourager
• Time keeper
• Observer
• Contributor

(* These roles are the same; a variety of terminology has been included to support the different approaches taken by schools)

Group Discussion Prompts

Useful A5 prompt cards for each of the above roles.Each prompt card includes sample questions the children could as during discussion activities. 

Rules for Group Discussions

2 A4 posters for display to remind the children of the rules to be followed during group discussion activities. 

Group Discussion Role Labels

14 sheets of labels for each of the above roles, designed to be printed out onto a sheet of adhesive labels.

These can then be stuck to the children’s jumpers so that each member of the group is aware of others’ roles. Alternatively, they could be made into badges.

Each Role Labels sheet contains 14 labels.  

(The sheets of labels provided are compatible with sheets of 14 adhesive labels, e.g. 'PC Line Multipurpose Labels' 14 per sheete.g. ‘Decadry Ultra White Labels’, 14 per sheet. These can be purchased from major retailers such as PC World) 

Please note that the labels will be supplied in Microsoft Word format so that they can be amended if necessary, e.g. to add a child’s name or to use a different label size.
