Designed to encourage creative thinking, Story Starter Dice are a great way to assist children with oral and written storytelling.

The 6 dice consist of two character, two setting and two situation dice, designed to provide the children with basic elements from which to develop a story.

The dice also include full-colour images.

Instructions for use

• Roll all six story dice and review the rolled choices to decide which character, setting and situation cube combination is the most helpful in developing a story.
• Encourage the children to brainstorm, e.g. if the situation 'call the police' is rolled, the children may brainstorm and decide that instead of calling the police the main character may visit the police, etc. Therefore, the dice do not have to be used literally.
• Help the children to develop questioning skills in order to enhance possible story details. e.g. If the combination 'doctor - sea-is scared' is rolled, encourage the children to ask questions like "What kinds of different doctors are there? What could a doctor be doing in/near the sea? Why might the doctor be scared?
• Encourage the children to record their ideas for reference as they create their stories

The Story Dice are produced in full colour using images and the Sassoon Primary font.

To assemble, print onto card and fold up into 'dice'.

Tip: For more durable Story Dice, either laminate or cover with clear Fablon prior to assembly.
